Guidelines for Monitor Placement

 Distance:

Ideal distance of placing the monitor is about 24 - 30 Inches / 60 - 75 Centimeters from eyes.
Monitor can be set to lower resolution / larger fonts to view comfortably at this distance.

In Fig. 1, The distance E -> M should be 24 - 30 Inches / 60 - 75 Centimeters.

 Altitude:

IdealMonitorPlacement Y Axis Our eyes are most comfortable when we are looking down at and angle of 15 - 45 degrees.

Ideally, the top border of screen should be below eye level at an angle of 15 - 45 degree.
If the monitor is placed at an angle of 45 degree, then its lower border
will be near the standard position of keyboard.
In this position the number of movements of eye and neck required to shift vision from
keyboard and the monitor will be minimized and so will the chances of injury
which happens because of repeated movements of the muscles of eyeball and neck.

In Fig. 2, The angle A - E - B should be 15 - 45 degrees.

 Alignment:

IdealMonitorPlacement X Axis The monitor should be placed such that its screen surface is perpendicular to the nose
when you are looking straight ahead.(As illustrated in Fig. 2)

 Tilt on X Axis:

Wherever you place the monitor, the surface of screen should always be
perpendicular to the eyes, so more lower you place the monitor, more should be the tilt on X Axis.

 Some common Mistakes:

  • Placing the monitor at a level higher than the eyes and looking up at it.
  • Placing a monitor at the corner of the workstation so that more space is available in the center for placing books etc.
